ISO Health Informatics Experience & Telehealth Services Through Covid
Resourcing and policy will determine how telehealth is positioned in the COVID-19 context. Flinders University conducted an investigation to poll health professionals to learn about their experiences using Telehealth in COVID-19. Telehealth, which lets clinicians and doctors to interact with patients over the phone or online, was encouraged in Australia in the beginning stages of the pandemic. This was to decrease the risk of transmission. This is particularly beneficial for rural and remote areas where physical medicine might be difficult to access.

A group of researchers from Flinders University including Professor Paul Ward, Dr Hailay Abrha Geosesew, Professor Anthony Maeder, Professor Hailay Abrha Gesesew and Dr Alan Taylor surveyed 91 healthcare professionals to assess their experience with telehealth during the epidemic. According to the experts, positives include legalization for telehealth services as a means of service, greater confidence in the provision of it, and higher capacities for financial and human.

"While there were many doctors who believed the transition to telehealth taken place because of the pandemic," stated Dr Alan Taylor (a lead researcher at Flinders University who is also an active member of the Australian Telehealth Society Committee).

Dr. Taylor stated it was hard to determine how telehealth could be sustained following the pandemic. The future funding of health services via telehealth will also be affected due to the complicated mix of policies and clinical procedures. Dr. Alan Taylor managed a project to create an international standard for Telehealth services. The International Standards Organization Health Informatics Committee has released a brand new ISO International Organization for Standardization Standard which was ISO 13131:2021 Health Informatics- Telehealth services- Quality planning guidelines. Dr Taylor stated that international standards are an important part of world trade in goods, services, and with the increasing use of telehealth services, it is crucial to maintain the quality of telehealth services subject to ISO/TR 11633-2:2021 Health informatics-Information security management for remote maintenance of medical devices and medical information systems. These guidelines will be useful for healthcare providers including primary care physicians who wish to use risk management to set quality targets and create procedures for the operation the telehealth service.
